As we all know that this event is all about cars and (of course) the ladies, this event I might say has been changed and improved constantly. Being a follower of this event for 3 years, I have to say that the last year’s MIAS (2011) was better; (I mean, don’t get me wrong, no offense to the gorgeous and sexy ladies here coz they were all smokin’ hot. I think last year’s good point, in my humble opinion, was more cars, cycles, and presentation than the usual) And I’m sure, some of our fellow hobbyists/ photographers would agree. I’m not disappointed though, it’s just that  you can’t actually avoid to compare.

Ladies and Gents, Welcome to a religious and entertaining cultural festival in Iloilo City held every 4th Sunday of January, in honor of our patron Santo Niño; The most prestige, energetic, loud, and eye-catching Dinagyang Festival!

And since it’s my first time to witness and be part of this huge event, I just wanna share you folks my shooting experience that you might find helpful and interesting (specially for those who are planning to take photos in this event next time).

#1 – The golden rule and the secret for having good pictures…
- None other than having an ID/ Photographer Pass. And that folks is absolutely a must! Why? coz good gears aren’t that good without having an ID; And I’m quite sure you don’t wanna find yourself pity, rejected by the Marshals, sneaking for a good shooting spot.

#2 – So now you have the ID, what’s next?
- Prepare the right tools for catching a good fish! Ask yourself, what are the kind of shots you want to achieve. If your answer is ALL, then bring your Ultra-Wide Angle, your General-Purpose Lens and a Telephoto. In  my case, I only used a Telephoto since I’m only aiming for capturing moments and expressions.

#3 – Plant yourself on a perfect spot.
- Since your not the only one photographing this event, It is important to have a good spot.  My opinion? Front row-center. Be here as early as you can coz I’m gonna tell you once again, your not the only one who would like to be in this position.

#4 – Protect yourself at all times.
- Yeah, yeah, I hear ya! There’s no trouble planting yourself on a perfect spot, but be aware of the sunlight, coz this one will ruin your shooting momentum (just like what we’ve experienced). This is the lesson I’ve learned in this event, and my suggestion is… Bring something to cover you up when the sun strikes your spot. A hat, scarf, long sleeves, etc..

#5 – Water/ Thirst Quencher.
- If your planning to plant yourself in one spot, then water is a must.

As the countdown begins to the mysterious, upcoming year of 2012, Today, we celebrate another regular holiday before this year ends.

In commemorating the life and works of our national hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal, Rizal Day is considered as one of the Philippine National Holiday that is celebrated every 30th day of December, his execution day at Bagumbayan (now known as Rizal Park) in 1896.

So without further adieu,  in commemorating the life and works of Rizal, here’s my little tribute (a different set of photos rather than what we usually see like  his monument or other statues)  in recognition of our National Hero. A rare, 1970′s two peso bill that doesn’t exists nowadays. Check this out!

Ladies and Gents, welcome to a place where you can find blue skies, white cross, green grass and peaceful silence all in one. Welcome to Manila American Cemetery and Memorial.

Just a brief info about this place, the Cemetery Gates are open from 9am to 5pm. Make no mistake about it folks, the guards here were really strict on implementing the house rules, specially the operating hours, which turns our normal shooting plan into a 30-minute photo walk challenge. How? Here’s the story (really boring and nonsense but I’ll say it anyway)…

We’ve took a cab ride from Ayala MRT Station (just to assure our destination since we don’t know how to get here) and tell Manong (the cool driver of the cab that plays a Bon Jovi track) that we need to get here to this beautiful, peaceful place for shooting. Good thing he knows this place so everything is smooth and easy for us.

We’ve arrived here at exactly 4:30 pm, relaxed and quite lazy. Upon entering the Cemetery Gates (my favorite cut from Pantera), Manong, who wears a cool, black sunglasses (who’s also one of the Security Guards of this place) approach us and handed out a laminated yellow paper which states the rules and regulations/ do’s and dont’s of the cemetery. So cutting the crap out, it’s clearly stated in the paper (which is also displayed at the gates which we didn’t notice)  that the regular operating hours is from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. – end of story!

So enough with the chit chat, here are some of the shots that I’ve come up within 30 minutes; and let me tell you, it ain’t easy shooting under time pressure. Hope you guys like this one. Check this out!
