Ladies and Gents, welcome to another session as were down to the last two chapters of my Bonded by Blog photo compilation, in celebration of Shot n’ Roll Anniversary. Welcome to Chapter 2: Random Faces.

Chapter 2: Random Faces is all about taking photos of different people, in different style and different field. In short, Portraits! Let’s capture the moments, show those sweetest smile, bring out the head banging and unleash the Rock n’ Roll Attitude. \m/

Before we proceed, let me show you the Wiki definition of what Portrait Photography is all about…

Portrait Photography is a kind of photograph where a person’s face is the focus, although the entire body and the background may be included. A portrait is generally not a snapshot, but a composed image of a person in a still position. A portrait often shows a person looking directly at the camera.

So without further ado, let’s roll this chapter to the 1st one, Studio Portraits!

Here’s some of the shots taken inside the studio. To give you a guide and more accurate settings, use a Light Meter.Here’s what the Light Meter says on our set (with Studio Flash):

Now to give you folks a little recap ’bout this, I heART Makati is one big photography event held at the gardens of Ayala Triangle. Consisting of different types of photo contest, this event also have photography workshops discussed by the top leading professional photographers of our country like Mr. John Chua. (Not to mention the food and drinks for free \m/)

What’s cool ’bout this event is that, they bring out some interesting subjects to shoot from, aside from the beautiful tall buildings and structures of Ayala. Portraits, landscapes, architectures, animals? Name your expertise coz they’ve got all of the subjects that you needed.

So here it is folks, showing you the last piece of the I heART Makati puzzle. I don’t know if this vivid gallery sucks or not, but I wanna say thanks for your time for dropping by! \m/

Way of the Cross… A Passion and Photography, in observance of the holy week.
After visiting the two beautiful and interesting churches, we head our way to the 3rd church on the list.

3rd stop: Sta. Rita Church, Sta. Rita

St. Rita Church in Santa Rita – has a relic of St. Rita. This relic has a piece of the saint’s body either a bone, a hair or lock of hair or a piece of flesh. Saint Rita’s relic in this church is from her flesh. Her intact and incorruptible body is kept in Cascia Italy.

After shooting from our 3rd destination, we proceed to the next and final church on the list.

San Agustin Church, Lubao

San Agustin Church is one of the oldest churches in Pampanga. This is where the marriage of President Arroyo’s eldest son was held eight years ago. Other famous “Lubenians” include educator Alejandro Quiboloy, movie stars, Rogelio and Jaime dela Rosa, the movie director, Gregorio Fernandez, actor Rudy Fernandez.

After visiting the four historic churches in Pampanga, we had our way to Cutud to witness the reenactment of Christ’s Passion and Crucifiction.

Maleldo 2010

Heading our way to where the cross stands is not an easy one. Under the extreme heat of the sun and long kilometer walk, these were just some of the factors that will put your body and patience to the test. (Not to mention the blood splattering from people whose taking Penitensya that walks with you)

Maleldo – The famous San Pedro Cutud Lenten observance in this city, which has attracted thousands of spectators, including tourists from different country.

Penitensya, Penance, Holy Week Tradition in the Philippines

After shooting from our 1st destination, we directly head our way to the Next Stop: Guagua. What’s in there? The second oldest church in Pampanga, the Betis Church, nicknamed as the Sistine Chapel of the Philippines.

But before we proceed, lets have a little lecture here about the word itself…

The word Penance derives from Old French and Latin poenitentia, meaning repentance, the desire to be forgiven. But traditionally, Penance has been viewed as a punishment and varying with the character with the offences committed.

Doing this often involved severe, often public, discipline, which could be both harsh and humiliating but was considered spiritual act.

Penitensya, the Filipino term for Penance, is a tradition being held by the Filipinos during Holy Week, specially on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.

Carrying a cross on his way to 7 churches… Another way of doing Penitensya.

While we were shooting inside the Betis Church, we’ve noticed a group of people doing their Penitensya outside. Considering this church as their next stop, they pause for a minute, kneel down and silently say their prayers.

Using shred leather straps, you can hear the loud strikes to the hand and to the back of the man with black Nazarene dress. And believe me, seeing and hearing him taking these punishments, you’ll absolutely say it to yourselves that you don’t wanna be in his position taking those painful act.

After kneeling down for a few minutes, they suddenly lie, facing down their flesh skin on the ground. Suffering from extreme heat of the sun and the hot surface of the ground, they stay lying for almost 5 minutes before they stand up and leave the place.

Every man has its own cross. The only thing that matters is how will you carry it…

Most of us say that doing this kind of Penitensya is a sinner. Well I say all of us are sinners, but they have the guts, courage, strength and faith that keeping them holding and enduring these punishments.

A closer look at their back… Busted wounds and blood pouring, as the sun heats up their wounded flesh.

Bloods and Cross…
Two things that describes the agony and pain suffered by our Lord Jesus Christ. I guess for some people, this is their way and interpretation of doing their Public Penance or Penitensya.
